Metagov is a laboratory for digital governance. Amongst our many projects are the Grant Innovation Lab (GIL) and the Technical Governance project within DAOstar. This profile is focused on these two projects in the context of Octant Epoch 5.
The mission of Metagov is to cultivate tools, practices, and communities that enable self-governance in the digital age.
As an organization, we are focused on problems pertaining to digital governance broadly. For the GIL, we're focused on the problem of a lack of best practices and common understandings pertaining to the governance of grant programs, including impact measurement.
For the Technical Governance project, the problem is that hacks, governance takeovers, and other undesirable security related incidents are still frequent in web3. While audits and bug bounties test the resilience of a codebase, they do not test trust assumptions or how operations are carried out in decentralized organizations like DAOs. The lack of a more human-readable set of expectations prevents communities from being mindful of the present state of technical decentralization and security in the DAOs and projects they are a part of. Due to the lack of industry wide standards on security practices, same hacks keep repeating, and decentralized projects like DAOs, continue to have poor management of technical assets.
For the GIL, it's a series of workshop / community activities along with research on grant programs in web3. For the Technical Governance project, it's coordinating with security firms, DAOs and other web3 projects to test and strengthen the set of recommendations
